A briefing dedicated to the concept of the IV International Pacific Theatre Festival program was held in Vladivostok, at the Primorsky Regional Youth Theatre.
The briefing was attended by:
Elena Bronnikova, Deputy Chairman of the Primorsky Krai Government – Minister of Culture and Archives of the Primorsky Krai;
Karina Tsaturova, Head of the Pacific International Theatre Festival, General Director of the International Chekhov Theatre Festival, President of the International Confederation of Theatre Unions;
Igor Seleznev, Director of the Primorsky Regional Youth Drama Theatre;
Ada Luana, actress and director of the Cetor de Areias Isoladas Theatre Company (Brazil); doctoral student at the Faculty of Performing Arts at the University of Brasília and Master of Dramaturgy at the University of Paris III Sorbonne Nouvelle.
The main parameters of the festival program, which will be held in Vladivostok in September-October next year, were announced.
The program will feature performances by various theatre companies.
In 2008, Ada Luana became one of the founders of the Cetor de Areas Isoladas theater company. Here, she began working on a trilogy project based on Chekhov's plays. In 2023, the play "To Moscow! Palimpsest" was presented as part of the II Pacific Festival in Vladivostok and the XVI Chekhov International Theater Festival in Moscow. The second part of the trilogy is "Jupiter and the Seagull." It's impossible to live without theater!" – the audience of the Alexandrinsky Theatre Festival in St. Petersburg in 2024 saw. The third performance, «Uncle Vanya», will be created together with the Primorsky Youth Theatre troupe for the Pacific Festival in 2026. The birth of this performance is a clear example of the Pacific Festival's activities aimed at the prospective development of theater in the region, professional cultural bridges between Russia and BRICS countries, and gaining new experience and knowledge by the local theater community.
Latin America as a theater continent has always been point of interest to Russian audiences.
Fr om Argentina, the performance "The Tempest" by the outstanding choreographer and classic of modern ballet, Mauricio Wainrot, will be brought. A true symbol of the Latin American ballet scene, he was the artistic director of the San Martin Theatre's Contemporary Ballet, the Royal Ballet of Flanders, and companies in Germany and Canada. "The Tempest" is the pinnacle of Weinroth's work and his signature piece, and it has been applauded by audiences at some of the world's most prestigious venues.
The second landmark production comes fr om Colombia, and its title refers to the heights of world literature: "No one writes to the colonel." The director of the play, Jorge Ali Triana, was not just a familiar face; he was a friend of Gabriel García Márquez and worked with him personally on theatrical adaptations of his works.
Another exclusive of the festival is a play from Malaysia, which will be presented in the Russian program for the first time. The director, Li Jin-sung, is a professional martial arts master. In his play "40 or Not," he has created a new synthetic form with the help of four actors.
The performance from Belarus will be an important part of the festival's concept, which aims to educate young audiences and foster a tradition of family theater visits. The charming story "Smart Dog Sonya" by the Belarusian State Puppet Theater is aimed at the youngest audience. Directed by Evgeny Kornyag, the most successful theater director in Belarus today, the play is rated 3+, and it is expected to attract the most discerning and critical audience, who will form the core of the Pacific Festival's future audience for many years to come.
The participation of other significant performances from the CIS is currently being confirmed.
Work is underway to choose the titles of performances by two other BRICS countries: China and India. There is a wide selection of Chinese performances. The festival will feature an unusual interplay of two cultures: an interpretation of a Chinese play by a Russian director and a version of a Russian classic by a Chinese director. She Muze graduated from the Russian State Institute of Performing Arts, wh ere he studied under Gennady Trostyanetsky, and his entire career has been connected with Russia, wh ere he has collaborated with many theaters. He presents in Vladivostok his version of the great Chekhov`s novel “The lady with the dog”.
Planned venues for the program: Main and Chamber Halls of the Primorsky Mariinsky Theatre, Primorsky Academic Regional Drama Theatre named after M. Gorky, Primorsky Regional Drama Theatre of Youth.
It is planned to open the sale of tickets for performances of the program of the IV Pacific International Theatre Festival on April 16, 2026 on the official website of the festival.
