The Aditi Mangaldas Dance Company masterfully performs the classical Indian dance form kathak, seamlessly integrating it into a contemporary context and infusing it with relevant, modern meanings.
The production “Within” explores the innermost spaces of the human soul, where humanity and cruelty, masculinity and femininity, good and evil intertwine, awaiting reflection and expression. The performance has been highly praised by critics and enthusiastically received by audiences at international festivals in India, Romania, the United Kingdom, Australia, Georgia, Germany, and Singapore.
“The choreography of ‘Within’ is markedly different from my recent works. It is a journey inward, an exploration of the deepest human emotions, however unsettling they may be. It is a journey to which I invite you,” says Aditi Mangaldas.
Aditi Mangaldas is a choreographer and a leading performer of classical Indian kathak. She has gained international recognition for the richness and complexity of her choreography. Alongside performing and creating classical works – both solo and ensemble – her innovation lies in reimagining tradition: drawing on her profound knowledge of kathak, she develops contemporary dance forms imbued with the spirit of classical art. In 1991, she founded her own company, the Aditi Mangaldas Dance Company – Drishtikon Dance Foundation. She was nominated for the UK National Dance Awards in the category of Outstanding Performance (Classical) and was also honored with two of India’s most prestigious arts awards, which she later declined on principle. Her productions have repeatedly been featured in the programs of the Chekhov International Theatre Festival.
