Director - Ding Yiteng

As much as Cyrano de Bergerac is brave on the battlefield, he is timid in love. The famous duelist and poet is in love with the beautiful Roxana, who does not guess about his love. She receives passionate epistles from the handsome Christian, but it was Cyrano who wrote those lines on his behalf. Christian steals Roxana’s heart, but he is killed in battle, and never had a moment to reveal who the real author of the poems and love letters was...
Rostand wrote Cyrano at the end of the 19th century, two hundred years after the time when a real prototype of this hero had lived. In the 21st century, this poetic story is reimagined by the National Theater of China. Ding Yiteng, who has gained the reputation of "the most popular young theater innovator" in his homeland, deftly combines the European acting school with the captivating Chinese opera, bringing together the traditions of East and West.
