Аrtistic Director – KUNIHIRO KAWAHARA

Drummers: Kunihiro Kawahara, Kenichi Takakura, Yuki Komiya, Ryuki Kimura, Kotaro Ueda, Kinji Nagasoe, Sotaro Kawahara

Janese Taiko drums came into existence in ancient times as a means of transmitting sound over long distances: they were used, for example, to count time or to raise the spirit of warriors before battle. It is believed that a Japanese drum can transmit sound over a distance of at least 3.6 km. Nowadays, taiko drummers devote themselves entirely to this art, putting both body and soul into the rhythms. There is still a belief that Taiko drums carry sacred sound to the heavens, and even the gods hear it.
Kunihiro Kawahara is the leader of the Nobushi group founded in 1998. The name is translated from Japanese as “wild samurai”, that is, a warrior without a master, not in service to anyone. The energetic and colorful performances of Nobushi are dedicated to Japanese gods, Buddha, and the spirit of a true samurai. The group performs exclusively its original compositions.
Their distinctive and unique style is adored in many countries around the world – it is hardly possible to learn such a technique in music schools, it is as unique as the Nobushi themselves. The mastery of playing percussion instruments is passed down from generation to generation by residents of a small town in Fukuoka Prefecture in Kyushu Island. The authentic cultural soil has given birth to and nurtured outstanding performers: most of the musicians have been playing the drums from an early age.
During the year, the group gives at least 80 concerts all over the world.
